Gercide Luc

Gercide Luc is the associate director of community programs at Urban Edge - a nationally known community development organization. In this role, she works with clients regarding budgeting, financial acumen and credit repair toward becoming a first-time homeowner. “It makes me very happy when clients find a house,” said Gercide. “Their win is my win.”
A first generation Haitian-American who grew up in Boston, Gercide teaches Urban Edge’s first time homebuyer course in English and Haitian Creole. “It’s beyond a nine to five job. I am on call all of the time,” she said. The clock is moving when you’re buying a home.”
Gercide grew up in subsidized housing and experienced a period of time when she was unhoused – her motivation to work on behalf of people who need help finding housing. She said, “people don’t get the help they need to secure housing.”
She has also worked as a mediator for people who were losing their homes in the 2008 housing crisis. ”I want people to be informed and educated about housing resources.”
On being nominated as a 2024 ABCD Community Hero she said, “I am overwhelmed and honored to be recognized for this work.”
