Miguel Ferreras

Roxbury/North Dorchester

From a young age, Miguel Ferreras knew that his calling was to help others. Born in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic and raised in the city of Baní, he came to the United States in 2007 in search of better opportunities. Settling in Dorchester, he learned about ABCD’s work through a friend and began volunteering with the Roxbury/North Dorchester Neighborhood Opportunity Center in 2015.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ferreras came to the Neighborhood Opportunity Center almost every day to help distribute food and clothing to those in need. Despite knowing he was risking his life, he felt that the work was too important to ignore. He never sought praise or recognition for his efforts either. “Humility is incredibly important to me and is always at the center of what I do,” he says.

Ferreras feels honored to be receiving this award. “ABCD is a family,” he says. “It means a lot for my effort to be recognized.”
