Beth and
Meyer Chambers

Project Care and Concern

Project Care and Concern (PCC) couldn’t ask for more diligent volunteers than Beth and Meyer Chambers. Based in Dorchester and operated by Sister Joyce McMullen of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, PCC provides hundreds of Dorchester residents with food and clothing every day, and Beth and Meyer have been a part of these efforts for over 20 years.

Although the West Roxbury couple came to learn about PCC in different ways — Beth through her work at Catholic Charities of Boston and Meyer through his parish affiliations — they are united in supporting the organization’s mission however they can. “Helping those in need is our number one priority,” says Beth.

Meyer, who spent a large portion of his career as the Campus Minister for Liturgical Arts at Boston College, recalls how BC students would get together around the holidays to raise money for PCC. “Something tells me that tradition will be around for years to come,” he says.

The Chambers’ lives have changed significantly since moving to West Roxbury over 30 years ago; Beth started out at Catholic Charities of Boston as a soup kitchen volunteer and is now the Vice President of Basic Needs, and Meyer recently stepped down from his role at BC. However, their commitment to PCC and its mission has never wavered. “As an administrator, I still think it’s necessary for me to get out in the community,” says Beth. Meyer agrees: “There’s no point in being a religious person if helping those in need isn’t your primary calling.”
