“It's empowering to help people,” said Annie Lee who is a founding member of the Voyagers program for youth, ages 18 to 30, at the Asian American Civic Association (AACA). Voyagers offers youth career counseling, financial counseling, college financial aid, mental health counseling, access to public benefits and coding camp. The group convenes to strategize about their life plans and to give status updates about their endeavors.

 

Before founding Voyagers, Annie availed herself of AACA programs, services and opportunities – taking a coding course, receiving job search assistance, volunteering at the AACA gala and giving opening remarks at their banking workshop earlier in 2024. Annie lives in Somerville and said that she hopes her work inspires other youth to volunteer and give back. “Being a volunteer gives me purpose,” she said.

 

Annie was surprised about the ABCD Community Hero nomination and said that she is thankful and appreciative. “I am grateful to the AACA, she said. “They have changed my life for the better. I am happy to be a part of it.”
