“Charlestown is my home, not just a place for business. Helping in the community means a lot to me. So by putting a bit of sweat into my cooking I can create dinners that raise a significant amount of money. I’m not lucky enough to be a pro athlete, and I’m not signing autographs. But I can create some special meals that people are willing to pay a lot of money for and in turn help others.”
As chef and owner of the Navy Yard Bistro in Charlestown, John Moore goes above and beyond to give back to his community. He fundraises for the Harvest On the Vine Food Pantry for Saint Mary – Saint Catherine of Siena Parish in Charlestown. He also fires up the grill for about 175 football fans during the annual Patriots Game Day Tailgate Style Fundraiser for the Charlestown Boys & Girls Club.
Through his battle with Guillain-Barré syndrome John connected with Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and developed the Nerves of Steel Foundation to support others afflicted by similar and rare disorders.
He is an advocate for the Charlestown Mothers Association, and an overseer of the USS Constitution Museum.
