Jehla Johnson-Lugo

South End NSC

“I enjoy helping people because I’ve always been good at it. My mom would say it’s a gift of mine. I realized that there are a lot of people in different situations that need help. Not everyone has the same resources. Helping those in need humbled me a lot more than before. I don’t take things for granted anymore because I see that not everyone is able to have what others have.”

Cristo Rey Boston High School senior Jehla Johnson Lugo has been an invaluable member of the South End NSC and is the youngest of this year’s ABCD Community Heroes.

As a youth volunteer, Jehla always takes the initiative when it comes to helping clients seek service and support. She is reliable, professional, and committed.

She has directly supported ABCD’s food pantry and tax assistance programs, serving residents in the South End. Her hard work dramatically contributed to the high quality of service that ABCD South End NSC provides to clients. Her eagerness to help has set the bar for other interns and volunteers.
