“I love being with the children. They are so full of life. They’ve made me happy and I hope I make a bit of difference in their lives as they do in mine.”
Evelyn “Nana” House has volunteered as an ABCD Foster Grandparent since 2011.
As the chair of the ABCD/SeniorCorps Foster Grandparent Advisory Board, she advocates for the intergenerational program by sharing her experiences to potential volunteers, the Greater Boston early education community, and political platforms for funding.
Within the program, Evelyn encourages foster grandparents to embrace the aging process, have a voice, and be lifelong learners.
Childcare site supervisors describe Evelyn’s connection to infants and toddlers as “amazing, loving, and nurturing.” She inspires the children to flourish and staff to work with ease and confidence.
Her background in human services has evolved from helping those in need to building an emotional and supportive foundation for those who will lead our future.
A native of Boston’s South End, grandmother of six, and great-grandmother of three, Evelyn continues her work caring for children and inspiring the elderly, at a sprightly 76 years-young.
