Head Start & Children’s Services
“It is important that parents are always involved in their child’s education and school system. ABCD gives parents the opportunity to get more involved. I like the fact that as a parent my voice is being heard. It not only represents my child, but the children of the Allston/Brighton Head Start program. You can go to meetings and take part and learn what’s going on with the agency and be heard.”
To say Claudia Arrecis is an active ABCD Head Start parent would be an understatement. Because of her dedication as a volunteer with the parent advisory council, the Allston/Brighton mother was named to the ABCD Board of directors to represent the Head Start Policy Council.
As a member of the Head Start and Child Care Resources & Education Committee, with a background in social services, Claudia has become a strong voice for equality in education and care.
In her spare time, the full-time mother of one teaches conversational English to other Spanish-speaking parents. Her efforts have been so successful, there is now talk of having Claudia teach Spanish to the parents who speak only English.
